Greetings, fellow Scarborough residents.
There are many things to be proud of here in Scarborough, the place we have all chosen to call home. Lately, I’ve talked about our impressive natural features, like the Scarborough Bluffs, the Meadoway and our extensive green spaces; also the Scarborough Civic Centre, perhaps our most iconic building.
But there’s something even more remarkable about our dynamic Scarborough ecosystem: our people. Entrepreneurial, accomplished, resourceful … and even famous!
Enter the Scarborough Walk of Fame.
Since 2006, Scarborough has been celebrating some of our most accomplished residents and alumni with a “star” on Scarborough Walk of Fame Court at Scarborough Town Centre. Take a look at all the stars the next time you’re there. You’ll find their bios on the Scarborough Walk of Fame website.
Since 2021, the Scarborough Community Renewal Organization has been proud to be the organizer of the Scarborough Walk of Fame, carrying on the legacy incubated by the founders of SWOF back in 2003.
Some exceptional people have been born and/or raised here in Scarborough. Our civic pride swells to see almost 60 of them recognized at Scarborough Walk of Fame Court.
It’s now time to honour some more of Scarborough’s finest. Nominations for the 2026 Scarborough Walk of Fame induction ceremony are now open!
Do you know someone truly exceptional with Scarborough roots? Someone who has made a difference locally, nationally, or even internationally? Someone who has become a great ambassador for Scarborough? Why not nominate them! The nomination form is on the SWOF website, under “Nominations” and includes an online submission.
Nominations are accepted in eight categories: arts, health, education, sports, business, community, entertainment, and environment. We strive to induct one nominee in each category.
Some of our inductees are household names here in Scarborough. Others are household names who have become ambassadors for Scarborough across Canada and beyond.
Others aren’t household names but have a serious record of accomplishment, usually here in Scarborough, and sometimes beyond. In fact, SWOF has become a “walk of achievement” as much as it is a “walk of fame”.
For our 2024 event, we received more than 700 nominations for about 140 distinct individuals, which was wonderful to see. After all, this recognition is highly coveted! But it’s not a ballot-box-stuffing contest. All nominees are researched by our team of volunteer researchers and their research is carefully reviewed by our nominations evaluation committee. So it’s a rigorous process with results we can all have confidence in.
Getting a star on the Scarborough Walk of Fame is a high honour, which our inductees are proud of, just as we are proud of them for all they have done for Scarborough.
We also have our “Rising Star” awards.
Since 2018, SWOF has recognized young Scarborough residents, aged 16 – 25 who have demonstrated leadership and significant community involvement; a new generation of talented and motivated young adults who are on track to become Scarborough’s leaders of tomorrow. We want to recognize them too.
So you have many categories to choose from on our nomination form!
The application for nominations will close on October 15. That seems like a long way off, but it’s not. So please don’t delay. The announcement of our 2026 inductees will likely be made in January.
Induction day is scheduled on April 15, 2026 at Scarborough Town Centre, likely in the morning and early afternoon. Please plan to attend if you are able. You’ll see some exceptional Scarborough residents and alumni who will make you even more proud of the place we all call home.
