The contributions of Scarborough residents to Canadian and global art, culture and society will continue to shine at the Scarborough Town Centre with the transition of the Scarborough Walk of Fame Association leadership to the Scarborough Community Renewal Organization (SCRO).
The SCRO has agreed to assume leadership for the Scarborough Walk of Fame and work with the program’s host, Scarborough Town Centre which is owned by Oxford Properties, to continue spotlighting outstanding community members in Scarborough Walk of Fame Court. The initiative was founded in 2006 and has honoured more than 50 notable individuals and groups with stars installed at the Scarborough Town Centre.
“This agreement represents one more step in the growth of SCRO and its mission to connect, promote and renew Scarborough,” said SCRO President Larry Whatmore. “The Scarborough Walk of Fame Association has created a model for recognizing talent in our community and we are pleased to assume responsibility for continuing their great work.”
“Handing over the reins to SCRO is the key to a strong future for the Scarborough Walk of Fame. SCRO has an exceptionally strong board of Scarborough residents and can provide the leadership and management necessary to see SWOF thrive for many years to come,” said Marg Middleton, Scarborough Walk of Fame Association spokesperson.
“Hosting the Scarborough Walk of Fame brings a great deal of pride to our employees and shoppers. We look forward to celebrating local contributions and connecting the wider community with notable residents,” said Scarborough Town Centre General Manager Thien Nguyen. “Oxford Properties is committed to connecting people with exceptional places and this partnership underscores the role of our centre in the region.”
